GIST is a TSG project supported by the Coliban Water Community Rebate
TSG is participating in the Hepburn Shire’s Sustainable Hepburn Expo Day! Come on down and get inspired by local businesses and community organisations who are championing and improving sustainability in our patch! There will be stalls, workshops, food and activities for the whole family.
The consultants, Middleton Group, will present findings of the feasibility study to our community. You are invited to this important session to hear the results and learn ’next steps’ on how we can strengthen and improve energy reliability for essential services, businesses and households.
Energy & Climate Resilient Trentham aims to stimulate greater business and private take-up of solar, batteries and reliable energy supply through solutions like community energy grids and batteries. The project aims to mitigate climate change and build resilience against extreme weather events.
TSG acknowledges funding from the Shire’s Towards Zero Grants and the Trentham Community Bank, total $44,000, for the feasibility study to address unstable power supply and encourage more renewables and energy storage. These community information sessions are supported by the Coliban Water Community Rebate.
Come and hear about the solutions available to us in our local community.
Three members of Renewable Newstead will tell us the story of their ambitious journey over the past ten years. Their story is really about community problem solving … the same challenges we are tackling: how can we work together to bring renewable, reliable, and affordable energy to our small part of the world, harnessing the collective wisdom, endeavour and good-will of locals? We will also hear about some interesting initiatives in Donald and Tarnagulla.
Representatives from Powercor, the CFA, Coliban Water and Telstra will give presentations and answer your questions. This important event is the first of a series of pubic forums planned by TSG in response to on-going unplanned power outages and the major disruption to essential services (power, communications and water) over an extended period following the June 2021 storm.
This and subsequent forums will contribute to the TSG Energy & Climate Resilient Trentham project which aims to improve power reliability and promote renewable generation at the community and household levels.
TSG is grateful to Coliban Water for the Community Rebate which is supporting these forums.
Rowan Reid is a Master Tree Grower who has pioneered high-value farm-forestry in Australia – a forester amongst farmers. His latest book is “Heartwood – the art and science of growing trees for conservation and profit”. He is also a farmer and tree grower in his own right, in the Otway Ranges of southern Victoria and a founder of one of Australia’s most successful Landcare groups, the Otway Agroforestry Network. Rowan will speak to land-holders, tree-enthusiasts and anyone interested in the role of trees in the productive landscape. This event is also supported by Trentham District Landcare.
Where does your local water come from? How is it treated and delivered? Arising from TSG’s zoom meeting with senior Coliban Water staff last year, a tour of the Lagoon Road storage and treatment plant has been organised – this is the first opportunity the community has had to visit the plant for at least 14 years. There will be three sessions running.
Movie night! Who’s in? We are screening 2020 – “An aspirational journey to discover what the future could look like if we simply embraced the best that exists today”.
