Our vision is Living Sustainably, Living Locally, Living Well.
Trentham Sustainability Group (TSG) is one of the few local groups thinking deeply and acting accordingly in the face of significant environmental change. We want to inspire and enable local people to ensure a sustainable and prosperous future in our region and beyond. Through our programs, we aim to make connections and help build community resilience and wellbeing as we all face the challenges of a changing climate.
We welcome new members. By becoming a member you can play an active role in our community events, activities and operations, vote at our AGM and receive our email newsletters.
TSG is an enthusiastic team of local volunteers, with a broad network of supporters, working together to reduce our carbon footprint and help build local resilience and community wellbeing, as we deal with the effects of climate change. TSG began in February 2008. Some of our many initiatives and projects have been fully implemented and others are ongoing. Our Local Food & Farming initiative became Trentham Food Hub, a major project in its own right. The monthly Produce Exchange at Trentham Farmers Market has operated successfully for almost 8 years, a popular place for swapping backyard produce, sharing ideas, networking and meeting new residents.
A Community Conversation organised by TSG in March 2020 raised the urgency of our community’s need for action on climate change. Our priority areas are now more ambitious as we seek substantial funding to enable implementation of important projects to build resilience and security for the future. From the input of 30 enthusiastic locals emerged four key focus areas that TSG have explored and consolidated over the last year:
TSG is a not-for-profit community group operating under an Auspice Agreement with Trentham Neighbourhood House (TNC) signed on 11 October 2011. TSG first formed in 2008 under the auspices of Trentham Residents & Traders Assoc (TRATA). TSG adheres to the policies and procedures of the TNC Constitution. TSG is managed by a core ‘oversight’ group of volunteers who meet bi-monthly. A general meeting is held once or twice per year. Small working groups are formed to manage priority projects and organise events and activities. We are supported by an ever-growing network of citizens. All interested people are encouraged to join and ‘membership’ is free.
